Time in Care

~18 months on average, with many children experiencing multiple placements. A significant portion of children entering care are teenagers (13+), a group that often struggles to find stable placements.

Trends & Impact

Placement Instability: National data from AFCARS show ~33% of foster children experience 3 or more placements per year; Florida’s rate is similar for older youth. Mental Health Concerns: Over half of children in foster care face trauma-related symptoms or mental health disorders.

Children in Care

According to Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF), as of the latest reporting period (2022–2023), there are approximately 22,000–24,000 children in out-of-home care (foster care) in Florida at any given time.

Urgency

Foster care disruptions lead to poor educational, emotional, and social outcomes. Evidence shows that early intervention and stable, trauma-informed environments can significantly improve a child’s long-term well-being.

Solving the Problem

WVIP Kids is built on a trauma-informed approach, ensuring every aspect of care prioritizes safety, stability, and emotional well-being for youth in foster care.

Group Home Structure

Safe, stable housing for children aged 13–16 (expanding annually to other ages) where they can live, learn, and grow.
